Lady Gaga Follows Other Artists Behind The Camera

Lady Gaga just wrapped up production on hermusic video for "Judas." And while she's relied on the instincts of professional music video directors in the past, this time around the singer (along with creative director Laurieann Gibson) has decided to helm the video herself.
This isn't the first time, however, that Gaga has taken on a directorial role. She had a hand in her "Born This Way" video as well, enlisting her Haus of Gaga to co-direct the video along with fashion photographer Nick Knight.

Gaga is hardly the first pop star to direct his or her own music video. 30 Seconds to Mars frontman Jared Leto acted as a director, under the pseudonym Bartholomew Cubbins, for five of his band's clips. He even got the band a 2010 VMA for the "Kings and Queens" video.

Just last month, the Foo Fighters debuted their clip for "Rope," directed by frontman Dave Grohl. It wasn't his first turn in the director's chair — he's also done memorable Foo vids like "My Hero" and "Monkeywrench" — but it's certainly his most artful to date: a rough-around-the-edges, shot-on-VHS-tape thing that mimics the knotty nature of the song itself. And despite Grohl's claims that he's "not a director," "Rope" is certainly proof that he'd have a lucrative career behind the lens, if the whole "lead singer of a globally successful rock band" thing doesn't pan out.
Taylor Swift worked with music video director Roman White on her cinematic, time-traveling video for "Mine." The sweet video features the pop star falling in love with actor Toby Hemingway and imagining what their life might look like together over the course of the dreamy clip.
Back in the day, Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst acted as the band's music video director as well. The singer directed nearly a dozen of their videos, including "Nookie" and "Faith." Durst even lent his skills to other bands and worked with '90s faves like Staind and Korn.
What other artist-directed music videos make your list? Tell us in the comments!
